Hoshangabad is a holy place and is a district headquarters and Narmdapuram region headquarters in the part of Madhya Prdesh state. Hoshangabad district lies in the central Narmada Valley and on the northern bordering of the Satpura Hill. Hoshangabad city is famous for holy river Narmada. 

Every Amavasyas, Makrasankranti, Mahasivaratri and all Hindu famous festival thousands of pilgrims visited to this place for the holy bath. Sethani ghat is the most popular ghat (river bank) for the holy bath.

Narmada Jayanti and Ramji Baba mela is famous in the winter season. Every year one month mela held in the Samadhi of Ramji Baba. Thousands of pilgrims attend these events.  


Hoshangabad is connected by rail and road with all major cities of the state. Hoshangabad is on the main railway line to Delhi – Chennai and therefore most of the prime trains halt at this station. The nearest airport is Bhopal (75 KM), connected by regular flights with Delhi, Gwalior, Indore and Mumbai. Regular bus services are reachable from Hosangabad to Bhopal (75 KM), Pipariya (74 KM) and Itarsi (18 KM) on a daily basis. Itarsi is a main railway junction of the Central Railway,

Narmada River  ( नर्मदा)

Narmada River is the separate river in India that flows in a rift valley and flows in central India between North India and South India. Narmada River increasing in Madhya Pradesh state that runs from east to west along with the Tapti River and the Mahi River. Narmada flows over a length of 1,312 km earlier draining through the Gulf of Cambey (Khambat) into the Arabian Sea, 30 km west of Bharuch city of Gujarat. The Narmada River has a enormous water supply capability for agriculture and economy of the region. More than 90% of water flow occurs during the monsoon months of June to September.

Narmada River is also known as Rewa. This river which is reflected as holy as Ganga starts from Amarkantak. On the banks of Narmada many Shiv temples and ashrams of religious persons are situated. Persons consider “Narmada” bath as important as “Ganga” bath.

भारतीय संस्कृतिमें नर्मदा नदीका विशेष महत्त्व है । जिस प्रकार उत्तर भारतमें गंगा- यमुना नदियोंकी महिमा है, उसी प्रकार मध्य भारतमें नर्मदा नदी जन-जन की आस्थासे जुडी हुई है । स्कंदपुराणके रेवाखंडमें नर्मदाके माहात्म्य और इसके तटवर्ती तीर्थोंका वर्णन है । – नर्मदा नदी भारत के मध्यभाग में पूरब से पश्चिम की ओर बहने वाली  मध्य प्रदेश और  गुजरात राज्य में बहने वाली एक प्रमुख नदी है, जो  गंगा के समान पूजनीय है। महाकाल पर्वत के अमरकण्टक शिखर से नर्मदा नदी की उत्पत्ति हुई है। नर्मदा सर्वत्र पुण्यमयी नदी बताई गई है तथा इसके उद्भव से लेकर संगम तक दस करोड़ तीर्थ हैं।
